Julie London

JulieJulie London (nee Peck) was an American actor and singer with a career that spanned 40 years. London is a torch singer well-known for her smooth, mellow singing voice and her smooth, languid contralto and recorded more than 30 albums of pop and jazz standards between 1955-1969. Inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame was her recording of "Cry Me a River" the song she premiered on her debut album. London was also nominated in 1974 for the Golden Globe Award for her role in the role of Dixie McCall, a nurse in the show Emergency! London was born in Santa Rosa to vaudevillian parents. Her career began as an actress while she was employed as an elevator operator in downtown Los Angeles. London's career as an actor of 35 years began in film in 1944. It included parts as the female lead in several westerns. In the late 1950s, she signed a recording contract with Liberty Records, marking the beginning of her professional music career. Her final studio album in the year 1969, however, she continued to be a hit in the female lead role of nurse Dixie McCall in the television show Emergency! (1972-1979), she was joined by her husband Bobby Troup. The show was created by her former husband Jack Webb.
