Anita Saarkessian
Anita Sarkeesian was born in Canada but grew up in the United States. She has worked as media critic since. She is the founder of Feminist Frequency the site with videos and guest posts discussing the depictions of females in pop media. Anita Sarkeesian was a Canadian and an American feminist media critique. She is the founder and director of executive for Feminist Frequency an educational not-for-profit site that examines the representation of women in popular culture narratives. She's determined to dismantle stereotypes about women and how they appear in popular culture. In addition she has a mission to increase awareness of online harassment directed towards women as well as the marginalized communities of people. With a master's in political and social thought at York University Sarkeesian is also a much sought-after public speaker and she has delivered speech at the TEDxWomen Festival as well as The United Nations' Broadband Working Group on Gender. While a student at university she became fascinated by the issue of gender equality and the rights of women at an early stage. The ambitious lady planned to create an online series on the role of gender in games and was then the victim of a harassment campaign online. The attack did not stop her, but instead strengthened her determination as an activist for women in media. Numerous awards have been given to her for her contributions to the field she contributed to.
