Lee Roy Selmon has a background that is a combination of family scholarships football and community service. He is the youngest child of Lucious Selmon and Jessie Selmon, who had him raised on the family farm near Eufala. In second football, he was one of three brothers who played for Oklahoma. Three of them made All-America. One year 1973 Lucious Jr. Dewey and Lee Roy were starters. Lee Roy has won both the Outland Award as well as the Lombardi Award as the best lineman in the country. In the three years that Roy was on the field, Oklahoma won two National Championships. The third scholarship was awarded to him. He was as a National Football Foundation Scholar-Athlete in 1975. Selmon has a bachelor's degree in education. Lee Roy spent ten hours a week on volunteer work in his college days. After graduation, Lee Roy settled in Tampa which is where he played for nine years playing for the Buccaneers. There were three times he was named an All-Pro. He began his business career. By 1988 he had become an Account Relation Officer at Tampa's First Florida Bank and worked on the following groups: Special Olympics Easter Seals Baptist Church Ronald McDonald House United Negro College Fund South Florida Institute on Black Life Hall of Fame Bowl Committee. In 1982 The Junior Chamber of Commerce recognized him as one of 10 of America's most outstanding young men. Lee Roy weighed 256 lbs and was a tall of 6'2 inches. In his time at for college, he was the head coach of the team of 1975. He joined University of South Florida in 1993 as an assistant director of sports. In 1993, the College Football Hall of Fame recognized the player as a member in the year the year 1988. GTE Academic All-America Hall of Fame in 1994. Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1995. In 1995, the Oklahoma City Chapter National Football Foundation awarded its Distinguished American Award for 1989 to Lucious Selmon, Jr. Henry Bellmon was the Oklahoma Governor who presented this award.
